Personal Day Buy-back

Current contract 2013-2015 has a personal day buy-back possibility for members that have not used much of their combined leave.  This is a benefit negotitated by your local, take advantage of the option if you can.  You must let district know by May 31, if you are buying back your unused time.

1-Just a reminder about 'personal day buy back' in our contract:

According to Article IX Subd 9 of the 2013-15 teacher contract:

“A teacher who has used four (4) or fewer days of combined leave during the school year may elect to redeem, in the amount of $150 per day redeemed, unused personal leave days and have the sum deposited into the teacher’s health savings account (HSA) or 403(b) retirement account.  The amount of unused personal leave days that may be redeemed to the extent available shall be calculated as follows:

(i)                  Four (4) days of combined leave used =One (1) day of unused personal leave may be redeemed.

(ii)                Three (3) days of combined leave used =Two (2) days of unused personal leave may be redeemed.

(iii)               Two (2) days of combined leave used =Three (3) days of unused personal leave may be redeemed.

(iv)              One (1) day of combined leave used=Four (4) days of unused personal leave may be redeemed.

(v)                Zero (0) days of combined leave used =Five (5) days of unused personal leave may be redeemed.

Use of less than a half day of combined leave shall be counted as a half day.  Use of more than a half day, but less than a full day of combined leave shall be counted as a full day.

A teacher who has used four (4) or less combined (sick) leave shall notify the school district on May 31 of each school year of his or her desire to redeem unused personal leave days.  Redeemed personal leave days shall be deducted from the teacher’s accumulated personal leave days.

(Combined leave covers absences due to personal illness, family illness, doctor & dentist appointments, bereavement, emergencies and personal leave.)

For the 2013-14 school year, a day will be 8.75 hrs. Next year, it will be 7.5 hrs

Beth Gray will send out a form in May to those who are eligible.  It will reflect the days that they can buy back.  The days cannot be redeemed until the school year is over and will reflect any days used until the end of the year.  If you are unsure as to how many days that you have used this year, Aesop is a good place to look.
